Today on Practicing with the Masters, we’ll explore the controversial subject of medical marijuana with two expert guests.  Dr. Dave Carsten has been practicing dentistry for 24 years. He now has a private dental anesthesia practice in Vancouver, WA. He’s passionate about dental health and helping the public. He especially loves tackling topics that have been previously misunderstood. Blaine Chatterton is a pro-bono consultant to chronically ill clients and a chronic pain patient himself, who uses cannabis to treat his condition.

For the past 9 years, Blaine has been beset by chronic pain. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2003. The headaches lead to an addiction to prescription pain medication with little relief. After consulting with his doctors, Blaine began to use cannabis to address his chronic pain and has since become a consultant and expert on the use of cannabis for pain patients.

Dr. Carsten and Blaine discuss the research-based pros and cons of using cannabis for medical purposes. We’ll learn what the various methods of consumption are and which work best for certain medical conditions. The experts tackle a tough debate about how cannabis should be scheduled according to federal law.  They debunk widely-circulated myths with scientific research that examines how cannabis products can best be used to relieve chronic pain.

Cannabis is not a miracle cure-all drug – there are health benefits and side-effects that potential consumers should consider. It’s important to find truthful information to learn if cannabis might be a good choice for you while being aware of its dangers.
